Promoting unprotected unaccompanied children’s access to their fundamental rights in the European Union
The PUCAFREU project is co-financed by the European Commission, Directorate-General Justice within the 2009-2010 call “Fundamental Rights and Citizenship”, JLS 2009/2010. See the Project description: Justification and pertinence.
The French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique-CNRS is the organisation coordinating this project, more specifically through two UMR (Research units): MIGRINTER, Migrations, Espaces et Sociétés and CECOJI, Centre d’Etudes sur la Coopération Juridique Internationale, both based at the University of Poitiers. See our page Institutions and Staff.
Five partner organisations are involved in five European countries, which constitute the scope of the different actions of the project. These organisations are: Association Hors la Rue (France), Service Droit de Jeunes (Belgium), Fundacion la Merced Migraciones (Spain), ASGI- Associazioni per gli studi giuridici sull'immigrazione (Italy) and Foundation PARADA (Romania). There are also two associate partners based in Italy participating in the project, ARCI Associazione de promozione sociale and University Roma Sapienza.
The aim of the PUCAFREU project is to analyze the causes hindering the access of unprotected unaccompanied and separated children to their fundamental rights as set by international and EU legislation. On this basis we are conducting research in order to propose guidelines and recommendations and to identify good and bad practices. We will also organize training seminars for legal practitioners and set up a European network of experts with the purpose of promoting the access to fundamental rights for this specific category of vulnerable children.
