The aim of the fourth project action is to create and implement a pilot counselling system allowing unaccompanied Roma children to receive information and guidance in order to promote their access to their fundamental rights in the Belgium context.
Unaccompanied Roma children are a specific category that request particular attention. Many of these children are exploited, either economically or sexually. Therefore they are particularly vulnerable and their access to their fundamental rights is not guaranteed. Very little is known on the exact living conditions of these children and to what extent they have access to their fundamental rights.
Furthermore, access to this category of children is known not to be easy. There is therefore a need to develop strategies and good practice to approach them, as well as to assess what their specific needs are, in order to promote their access to their fundamental rights. The counselling and information system within this workstream has the objective of informing these children about their fundamental rights and, at a second stage, referring them to the relevant protection services.
The information and knowledge during this pilot-action will be complementary to the field research and will also allow the inclusion of practical elements and experiences into the legal training seminars. A practical work-plan will also be developed in order to envisage similar actions in other Member States.
